Building Value in Your Business – Why? & How?

Why build value in your business? Many hired executives do it because “corporate” requires it. Many business owners do it for their own financial security, to attract desirable employees, and so they can borrow money for “necessary growth.” Still others simply to demonstrate to themselves and others that they indeed can grow their business.

Today, building value is a complex proposition, in light of increasing professional research and resulting “new tools” in this area, plus increasing professional competition in most industries. It’s not just a matter of growth, often it’s a matter of survival. Calculating your direction and magnitude of true-value growth can be simple or complex – as ABL’s recognized valuation and value-growth expert, Dave Berkus, will share in his insights as part of our presentation.

In terms of complexity, there are many interrelated issues that shape operational value creation (& sometimes destruction). Mastering this complexity and staying on top of the key issues can certainly be personally and financially rewarding. Most successful executives do it collaboratively, in ABL, and with other advisors.

As usual, we’ll have a brief overview presentation of key issues relative to our discussion topic. Our presentation will also include some highlights from the March-April 2025 Harvard Business Review cover featured article entitled: “The Seven Essential Elements of Strategic (Value Building ) Success: How to Maximize Value for All of Your Stakeholders.”

After our presentation, we’ll get to the most important part of our discussion, our members answers and comments relative to the following questions:

  • How important is building value in your business? Why?
  • What have been your most useful approaches in building value in your business?
  • Why have these been the most useful for you?
  • Based on our presentation and discussion, what new approaches, might you incorporate into building value in your business in the next 12 months?

As always, we’ll look to hear and discuss, “What’s Keeping You Up Nights?” and we’ll also serve as Strategic Advisory Board Members to Sameer Bhatia as he makes his Featured Member Presentation.
